Challenge
Bookatini is where two of Rachel’s passions meet: her love of great literature and her pride in her Italian heritage.
Lacking a creative outlet in her normal 9-5 office job, she decided to funnel her energy (and pasta-making habits) into Bookatini, a community collective with events held every month.
Ranging from book clubs to pasta nights, it’s all designed to bring together strangers over a mutual love of good food and a good time. But whilst Bookatini had built genuine momentum in the Melbourne social scene, its digital presence hadn’t yet caught up with Rachel just using a bio link to sell tickets via socials.
As part of our mission to support the economy of small business owners, and our ‘Good Eggs’ pro bono program, Rachel reached out to us for help creating a new website that could be the hub for all things events, contacts, and information for her club.
Perspective
Design and build a website that supports Bookatini’s growth by clarifying the customer journey, simplifying event discovery and sign-ups, and reinforcing the brand’s personality, all while remaining easy to manage as the community continues to evolve.
Solution
The goal was to create a digital home for Bookatini and a natural extension of Rachel’s established identity that felt cohesive. The brand’s modern “Italian Summer” aesthetic became a guiding principle throughout the site design. This meant expanding the colour palette from bold tomato-red and sunny yellow to include herby-green and some neutrals. We also added hand-illustrated icons of varying pasta shapes and Italian ingredients for a playful touch.
Grainy photography of tablescapes and soft, puffy typography paid homage to the retro-vintage essence, as well as the memories of Rachel’s own Nonna cooking in the kitchen.
Beyond aesthetics, we paid close attention to structure and usability. With multiple events running each month and the website acting as the primary point of reference for the community, clarity was essential. We carefully mapped the customer journey to ensure events were easy to find, information was clearly communicated, and sign-ups felt intuitive rather than overwhelming.
We also added SEO metadata: titles and descriptions to make sure Bookatini is easily findable vis search engines and AI search.
Just as importantly, we ensured the site was simple for Rachel to update herself, giving her the flexibility to manage content without friction as Bookatini continues to grow.
Impact
Much like settling in with your favourite book, or digging into a hearty bowl of home-made bolognese, using the Bookatini website as a consumer now feels like an easy, simple pleasure. More than just a functional upgrade, the website has become a true digital home for the Bookatini community, and to Rachel this means supporting its growth while preserving the warmth and intimacy that makes it special. We’ve been able to help Rachel streamline a significant amount of her processes through the website so that she can now focus her time on growing the welcoming and supportive book-club community that Melbourne didn’t know it needed, but very much wants to be part of.

Nº3. ABOUT
Bookatini is a Melbourne-based community events business founded by Rachel, built around two simple pleasures: great literature and Italian food.
Each month, the club hosts events ranging from book clubs to pasta nights, designed to bring strangers together over good food and a good time.
It's a warm, intimate corner of the city's social scene for people who believe the best evenings involve a book recommendation and a bowl of something homemade.
